Sophie A2023-08-21A wonderful week at Melba house. Myself and my husband Martyn have just returned from a great weeks stay at Melba house. Mark and Sharon went out of their way to make our stay very relaxing and comfortable. The breakfast is fantastic with large variety of options to chose from. The Melba house breakfast in a bowl was one of our favourites along with Marks poached eggs! The property is extremely clean and the beds were very comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for these hosts. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you feel that they have your every interest at heart The rooms are spotles and lovely, and the beds are extremely comfortable. Breakfast is superb and the portion sizes are huge . You'll have to forego your diet if you stay here. The breakfast is fantastic, especially the Melba house fruit special, a fry up if you want it, or omelette or salmon etc, poached eggs are wonderful! There is a refrigerator in every room and an ice machine in the dining room (which my husband LOVED) Sharon also put a little goody bag on every door handle each night with some chocolate in it! They also provided everyone with a bag of things for the journey home. All in all a fantastic place to stay, 10 out of 10 and the most friendly and obliging hosts, well done, Sharon and Mark! 😘A D2023-07-04Gracious hosts, wonderful visit to Torquay Absolutely first-rate. Sharon and Mark are gracious hosts, who welcomed us warmly. The rooms are immaculate, and they provide extra touches such as nightly chocolates and a going-away snack bag. The location is superb: quiet, and very near the train station (a level walk), Torre Abbey, and the sea. The breakfast is spectacular: full English (with local ingredients, including the most wonderful eggs) and healthy choices such as fruit, yogurt, avocado, and salmon. They have a single room which was also very helpful as I was one of a group of 3. Mark and Sharon make you feel welcome and at home as soon as you walk through the door. They know a lot about the local area, what's on and where's good to eat. Do not be afraid to ask questions-- they are a lovely, open couple who always go the extra mile for their guests, and their enthusiasm is simply irresistible. The room I stayed in was beautiful, spacious and so clean it sparkled. I loved the make-up removal towels they had in the bathroom, along with all the other lovely goodies. The shower pressure is excellent, which is exactly what you need after a day out walking. There's a TV, where you are able to access your own digital streaming accounts if you fancy curling up one night and watching a show. The bed is comfortable, so much so I didn't end staying up to watch television-- I was just too cosy.
When I woke up in the morning, there was a coffee- and tea-making spot in my room, and the cutest little milk jugs in the fridge. Having stayed in a couple of BnB without fridges, I think having one is a real bonus. You always have milk to hand for your morning cuppa, but during the summer months, you can keep your soft drinks and bottles of water cold. But if you're able to hold off, you can have excellent coffee in the breakfast room, along with a delicious, fresh breakfast, whether it is an exotic fruit salad and yoghurt or a freshly-cooked English to order. It's a wonderful way to start the day.
Melba house doesn't simply check all the boxes or the big-ticket items. Yes, my room was clean, incredibly comfortable, and tastefully done. But it's the little things that made it for me. You can tell a lot of care and thought has gone into the detail. And it is all these little things-- the things that you wouldn't notice if they weren't there, but when they are-- it just makes your time there just right.
I would definitely come back for a visit even just to have Mark's eggs again, and Sharon's fruit salad.

Our room was spotless and breakfast was excellent! I will never have a fruit dish as good as Sharon’s ‘Melba house’ fruit dish!
I loved the surprise hanging on the bedroom doorknob every night when we got home from our evening out!
Thank you also for our gift of snacks for our journey home, that was another lovely thoughtful touch.

20th July, 20215.0 of 5Lovely people, couldn’t do enough for you. Freshly cooked breakfast, choice of cereals and juices and teas. We were in room 4, front of building looking over park. They even gave us a going home goody bag with water cake, crisps and nibbles. Would definitely stay again if we are down that way.

Sharon and Mark are the most amazing hosts! Nothing is too much and they genuinely care that you’re having a nice stay at their B&B! It was the best service we’ve ever had at a B&B, we can’t recommend Melba house highly enough!
